In 2022, Mkwawa Leaf Tobacco Ltd began its journey with a clear ambition to contribute to the growth and transformation of Tanzania’s tobacco industry. Since entering the market, we have focused on building strong farmer partnerships, expanding processing capacity, developing markets, and increasing value across the tobacco value chain.
Our entry marked a new chapter for the industry, including the revival of tobacco processing operations in Morogoro through an investment of more than USD 35 million in the rehabilitation and modernization of the facility. With an expansion of processing capacity from 70,000 tonnes to 160,000 tonnes hence National tobacco production increased from 65,000 tonnes in 2022 to 122,000 tonnes in the subsequent season. Mkwawa Leaf Tobacco continues to invest in capacity expansion, farmer support, quality management, and market diversification.
